YouTube remains rife with misogyny and harassment, creators say

YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki took the stage in front of rows of creators at the company’s second ever “Creator Summit” in Los Angeles. The event was a gathering of some of the internet’s biggest stars, and Wojcicki was there to listen to their concerns and feedback.
She began by touting YouTube’s ad growth and the company’s plans to expand its original programming. But when she opened the floor for questions, she was faced with a barrage of criticism from female creators.

When a TikTok user searches the social media app for information on top news stories, ranging from Covid-19 vaccines to school shootings, nearly 20% of the videos presented as search results contain misinformation, according to a research report published Wednesday.
Researchers at NewsGuard, a journalism and technology tool that tracks online information, searched TikTok and Google this month for information on major news topics such as the 2020 presidential election, the Russia-Ukraine war and abortion to compare the misinfomation delivered by their search engines.

Peiter “Mudge” Zatko, the former security chief at Twitter, told a Senate committee on Tuesday that the social network does not reliably delete the data of users who cancel their accounts, expanding on bombshell allegations he made in a whistleblower disclosure first reported by CNN and The Washington Post last month.

It came to light that Rivers' Twitter account had a strange history of liked tweets. The head coach supposedly liked some sexual content on the social media platform, believing that his likes were private.

Appeals court upholds Texas law regulating social media moderation

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit on Friday upheld a controversial Texas social media law that bars companies from removing posts based on a person’s political ideology, overturning a lower court’s decision to block the law and likely setting up a Supreme Court showdown over the future of online speech.

The Justice Department’s top antitrust cop said he wants to “unplug” monopolistic Big Tech firms and drove home his support for a stalled congressional bill intended to rein in Google, Amazon, Meta and Apple during a fiery speech on Friday.
Jonathan Kanter, the Biden-appointed assistant attorney general who leads the Justice Department’s antitrust division, said U.S. regulators had previously taken a “whack-a-mole” approach to monopolistic behavior by Big Tech companies.
