An analysis of over six-million tweets and retweets — and where they originate from — has found that Canada is being targeted by Russia to influence public opinion here.
The study by the University of Calgary’s School of Public Policy found that huge numbers of tweets and retweets about the war in Ukraine can be traced back to Russia and China, with even more tweets expressing pro-Russian sentiment traced to the United States.

The move aims to end a standoff with the billionaire, who has threatened to pull out of his $44 billion deal to buy Twitter unless the company provides access to data he says is necessary to evaluate the number of fake users on the platform.

Regulators are treading carefully to rein in the power of social media platforms and control the spread of misinformation, but it's a tricky issue that may eventually be settled by the Supreme Court.
While some policymakers want social media platforms like Twitter, as well as Instagram and Facebook owner Meta to take down information considered untruthful about issues such as COVID-19, others claim social media companies don't have the right to determine what is or isn't fact and remove content. Lawmakers in Texas proposed a law seeking to hinder social media companies from taking down content, but the Supreme Court last month stepped in to block its advancement for now.
WhatsApp has until July to comply with EU consumer law, EU says

WhatsApp has until July to show that a privacy policy update introduced in January complies with EU consumer law, the European Commission said on Wednesday, in a case prompted by complaints from consumer bodies across Europe.
The European Consumer Organisation (BEUC) and the European Network of consumer authorities said WhatsApp had not explained the changes in plain and intelligible language in breach of EU consumer law.
