Twitter privacy settings to change now
Washington Post | August 23, 2022
Company Listed: Twitter
Privacy on Twitter is different from other places. For most people, the point of the social media service is to post things publicly for the world to see, like, comment and retweet.
However, just because your thoughts on “The Bachelorette” are available to strangers doesn’t mean things like your demographic info should be handed over to advertisers. Furthermore, a whistleblower’s allegations that the company misled regulators about lax security and spam, should raise concerns about user privacy on the platform.

The move by Twitter's former security chief to raise the alarm about the company's allegedly glaring cybersecurity deficiencies could further invigorate an already aggressive push by federal lawmakers and regulators to create stronger privacy rules and penalties to protect users' information, experts said.
Twitter is facing heavy congressional scrutiny and the potential for massive regulatory fines after it came to light Tuesday that Peiter Zatko, the company's ex-head of security and a former high-profile hacker, had slammed Twitter's cybersecurity posture and representations in whistleblower complaints he filed last month with the Federal Trade Commission, U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and U.S. Department of Justice.
Advent of a new-era Digital India Act - Key aspects to look out
Lexology | August 23, 2022
Company Listed: Twitter
After the withdrawal of the Data Protection Bill, 2021 (‘DPA’) from the Parliament, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (‘MEITY’) is expected to usher in a comprehensive framework for information technology law and regulation, apart from a separate data privacy law. It is widely reported that the Government is proposing to introduce a ‘Digital India’ Act (‘DIA’) that is expected to replace the Information Technology Act, 2000 (‘IT Act’).
The DIA is expected to be a comprehensive framework that would govern aspects such as regulation of intermediaries, provide for digital crimes such as deliberate propagation of misinformation, provide guidelines around women and children safety on the internet, and have a greater regulatory visibility and control over monitoring undesirable content on over-the-top service platforms.
