Social media posts about election fraud still prevalent, study finds

As former president Donald Trump stoked baseless claims of widespread voter fraud leading up to the 2020 election, tech companies rolled out a bevy of rules to clamp down on falsehoods.

Meta gave police access to private Facebook messages that allegedly detailed a Nebraska teen’s plans to get an illegal abortion, bolstering local authorities’ cases against the girl and her mother.

Mark Zuckerberg’s social-networking giant — which has promised to cover travel costs for its own employees looking to access abortions following the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade — complied with a search warrant from Norfolk, Nebraska police in early June, according to court records obtained by The Post.

Huge rise in self-generated child sexual abuse content online, report finds

Incidents of children aged between seven and 10 being manipulated into recording abuse of themselves have surged by two-thirds over the past six months, according to a global report.

Almost 20,000 reports of self-generated child sexual abuse content were seen by the Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) in the first six months of this year, compared with just under 12,000 for the same period this year. The disturbing global trend has grown rapidly since the initial coronavirus lockdown, with cases involving that age group up 360% since the first half of 2020.

WhatsApp users will be able to leave groups without everyone knowing under new privacy features.

The changes will also allow people to control who can see when they are online and to prevent screenshots of auto-deleting "View Once" messages.

The features are described as ways to keep users' messages as "secure as face-to-face conversations" by Mark Zuckerberg, the chief executive of WhatsApp's parent company Meta.

Snapchat Introduces Its First Parental Controls

Snapchat, the ephemeral messaging app, introduced its first parental controls on Tuesday, as social media platforms face increasing scrutiny for exposing young users to potentially harmful content.

Snap, Snapchat’s parent company, said in a blog post that its new tools would let parents see whom their teenagers were friends with on the app and whom they had communicated with in the previous seven days. Parents will also be able to report accounts that their children are friends with if they violate Snapchat’s policies. Parents will not be able to see their children’s conversations on the app.
